I get a TON of style-related questions every day. Ranging from where to shop for the perfect black suit, to what to wear for a job interview, to how to get your skin looking flawless! I’ve decided that all of these questions deserve to be shared, because I love my Southern Femmes! ♥♥♥ HAVE A STYLE QUESTION?? Email email@example.com to have your question answered in a blog post.
Here we go…
Q: I’m going to a wedding next Saturday at 4 pm. What should/can I wear?? I don’t know the couple well, but my husband is in the wedding. Help!
A: I feel like this is a question every woman asks herself, and there are SO many factors when deciding what to wear to a wedding. Just a few… time of day of the wedding, location of the wedding, ‘theme’ of the wedding, time of year, and your relationship to the couple getting married.
I’ve broken down 5 looks, based on personal style, that would work perfectly for an early fall afternoon wedding in the South.
#1: PREPPY WITH A TWIST
Look from J.Crew
Do you enjoy wearing classic pieces, but don’t want to look ‘boring’? Are you a big fan of J.Crew, but also love Anthropologie? Well then this is the look for you! Throwing a bold Jackie O. coat over a fun print, short-sleeved or sleeveless dress is the perfect way to dress for this transitional weather in the South. Keep your accessories minimal and neutral as the printed dress and the vibrant hue of the coat should be the main focus. So a neutral pump=perfection! And if you don’t want to show your legs off in this mini, opt for a beautiful neutral trouser and a printed silk blouse.
This look is perfect for a more ‘artsy’ or less formal wedding.
#2: ON TREND ELEGANCE

Do you enjoy looking ‘on trend’ but you also want to exude an air of understated elegance and glamour? Then opt for a well tailored dress that channels the ‘Mad Men’ trend. Paired with chic platform pumps and an oversized clutch, you will look perfect at a more conservative/formal wedding.
Also, Roland Mouret is a dress genius! His dresses fit women of all shapes and sizes, and never go out of style. Don’t feel like dropping $1000+ on one dress? Many have copied his iconic dress style so check out Black Halo, sold at Saks Fifth Avenue.
#3: SOUTHERN LADY

Do you love Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn?? Do you prefer a skirt or dress to pants?? Then you are the Southern Sophisticate. For a 4 pm wedding pairing a fitted sweater with a more ‘formal’ skirt, is a good way to tone down the dressiness of your look. Select a leather or snakeskin pump or slingback to keep with the sophisticated vibe. A ladylike, structured bag completes the look.
This ensemble is perfect for any type of wedding, as it can go formal or more casual!
#4: BOHO CHIC
Jennifer Aniston & Owen Wilson
Are you a bohemian at heart?? But you want to look ‘appropriate’ for wedding season? Then channel Jennifer Aniston with an artistic floral dress, opaque tights (if the weather is cold enough), and a gorgeous suede bootie! Stack some bangles on your wrists for an ‘effortlessly cool’ edge.
This look is perfect for a 4 pm wedding that is more casual, artsy, or more conservative but you know the couple well.
#5: CITY CHIC
Look from Saks by Prabal Gurung & Behnaz Sarafpour
Are you urban cool, city chic, or just a strong business woman that loves a great fitting pair of trousers? Then opt for a beautifully draped pair of black, charcoal, or chocolate trousers (or winter white if you are adventurous!) paired with a silk or starched button down. Instead of a blazer, step up your look with a cool vest-whether it be fur or suiting material, make sure it is not too casual (NO jersey!).
This look is perfect for any type of wedding. If it’s a more formal 4 pm wedding, dress up the look with your accessories…a strappy black heel (stiletto or kitten heel, just make sure your trousers are hemmed to the shoe), a gorgeous clutch, and fine jewelry.
