Tales of a Southern Femme Intern, Nichole Linton–
I don’t know about you, but I have a constant battle with myself about my hair. I want it to be thicker, longer, more curly, and so on. Even though I know none of those things will ever happen, I still search for the perfect hairstyle for myself. I can’t count the number of times I have changed my hair color, and even though I know my hair grows slower than molasses, I cut it short last year; only to change my mind 6 months later that I wanted it down to the middle of my back (it’s still not there yet by the way!)
I have switched hairstylists so many times, I can’t even remember who all I have been to. I have never been able to find anyone who can take my vision and turn it into reality (for a reasonable price). I want a hairstylist who can tell me when I am going to do something stupid or give me a great new hair style when I need it! I guess they are pretty big shoes to fill since I am so indecisive sometimes.
Then I met Shelby and worked with him on two photo shoots. He was fun and not only great at what he does, but actually loves it. He loves to take chances and create something new and fresh (which is exactly what he did for our fabulous Alabama Magazine fall fashion shoot!). So, I decided he needed to be my new hairstylist (and friend). I told him I wanted to try a new color that I had seen recently on Lauren Conrad, Whitney Port, Renee Bargh, and others (Mila Kunis has the brunette version).
Shelby was so excited to give me a new hairstyle that he offered me a makeover at Richard Joseph Salon Spa in English Village, where he is a hair stylist. Every girl loves a makeover, so of course I jumped at the chance. Plus, I had never been to Richard Joseph before and had heard great things about it, so I was excited to get to see for myself.
Richard Joseph has a great atmosphere and everyone is so friendly! The cafe has complimentary food and drinks with your salon services. And since it is an Aveda salon, the whole place smells so good!
Shelby sat me down and explained how he was going to do my color. Then he went to work. While my hair was setting, Lindsay Garrett did my make up for the full makeover experience. Here are some before and after pictures to show how much better my hair looked when Shelby was done.
Shelby went for a more subtle version of the color. He may do darker on top next time once we get closer to fall. I absolutely love it though! It’s so fun and fresh without being too over-the-top. I can’t wait to go back to Richard Joseph for another great experience and more hair adventures with Shelby!
